    VINEYARD AND CELLAR WORK:

The grapes for Roučí The Best of 2020 were harvested from the historic Plumberg vineyard, planted with Pinot Noir vines sourced directly from France. We consider clone 777 to be one of the most exceptional Pinot Noir clones in the world. The natural sugar levels would have easily qualified for a selection of grapes classification.

Plumberg is one of the oldest documented vineyard sites, first appearing on regional mas in 1621. Its unique soil and climate give the wines unmistakable character. The topsoil consists of loess with sand and clay, underlain by sandstone and limestone - conditions ideal for producing world-class wines. As is typical of truly exceptional vineyard, high quality goes hand-in-hand with naturally low yields.

The vineyard has been farmed organically since 2007. Demanding work, but invaluable for nature and for people.

Roučí 2020 matured in Francois Freres barrique barrels and was bottled in heavy glass with premium cork after reaching optimal ripeness. The wine is unfiltered and unfined, preserving its purity and authenticity.

    TASTING NOTES:

Roučí 2020 offers a garnet color with golden highlights. It is rich, full, aromatic, pure, and exquisitely elegant. the flavor of wild strawberries is beginning to evolve into stewed plums and fine chocolate. It is no longer young, yet not fully mature - a wine in beautiful transition.

The finish is long and persuasive, inviting another sip. we recommend decanting, or even opening the bottle and enjoying it over the course of a week (approximately one glass per day). The wine improves continuosly as it breathes.

Expected evolution: a more robust structure, sweeter and finer tannins, and deepening color. We are excited to see what surprises the coming years will bring.

    CUSTOMER IMPRESSIONS:

Feedback from Beaune, the heart of Burgundy, praised the wine as "a strawberry compote - excellent."

The renowned Steirereck restaurant in Vienna recently added Roučí 2020 to its list ( 3 Michelin stars).

Outstanding responses have also come from Seoul. from Oslo, private clients described it as a "velvety sensation."

    ABOUT PINOT NOIR:

Pinot Noir is one of the oldest cultivated grape varieties, grown in our region since the 14th century. Its defining characteristic is elegance. The typical color ranges from light garnet to brick red with a golden rim. On the palate, young wines are light to meduimbodied with refreshing acidity and gentle tannins. Aromas commonly include cherries, strawberries, raspberries, later plums, rose petals, and delicate spices.

With age, Pinot Noir becomes rounder, showcasing its delicacy and remarkable uniqueness. for these reasons, it remains one of the most beloved and valuable wines in the world.

Pinot Noir thrives on cool nights and warm sunny days during ripening - conditions that allow its best traits to emerge. These conditions are ideal in our region. Pinot Noir does not perform well in overly hot southern wine areas.

    NOTE

Roučí 2020 has been included on the wine list at Pea Porridge in Suffolk (of course a Michelinstarred restaurant).
